Hearing aids are unique appliances designed to assist you. Unlike other appliances, hearing aids come with distinct questions and care needs. Over 60 years of experience with various brands and types, I’ve encountered many questions — often met with “why didn’t anyone tell me that?”
The online live session Adjusting to Hearing Aids class includes a Q & A session for your specific questions and coaching about hearing challenges.
Hearing aids require special care. They are not simply something you insert and turn on. They are also very sensitive to heat and cold, and most are not water-resistant. Beyond care, there are key pieces of information related to adjusting to hearing aids:
- Ways to change the reception of sound to match your needs – this is more involved than just turning up or down the volume and varies per type and make of hearing aid.
- Battery info – type, size, usage requirements, insertion tips, and safety.
- Earmold, tube and dome information: needs and benefits
- Using the hearing aid on the phone: not every location allows speaker mode.
- Getting used to wearing hearing aids: fit, sound adaption requirements for your brain, and storage needs
- Addressing stigma comments
- Additional free or low-cost resources for hearing aid use.
